FAQ

It's always good to expand your knowledge, whether you're new to the world of tattoos or just brushing up! Read on for our most frequently asked questions, pertaining to both the shop and the world of tattoos in general.

  • Most items we use for tattooing are either compostable or biodegradable. Gloves, ink caps, barriers and bags all easily break down.

  • Deposits secure your appointment slot. The total amount will be based on how long you’re booked in, currently starting at $80 up to $500 for a full day. Deposits will continue to be non-refundable and come off the final price of the tattoo.

If you cancel under 2 of our business days, no show or are late to your appointment your entire deposit will be forfeited. Please call to cancel or rebook.

  • We require 2 of our business days (Wednesday-Saturday 12-7) to reschedule or cancel your appointment.

You may reschedule your appointment up to two times before we require a new deposit for your appointment.

  • We have people in the shop that are immune-compromised, and our artists work very close to our clientele. This poses risks to both our staff and clients, and we reduce many of those risks by staying mask mandatory - you’re also less likely to get sick during flu season, which is a bonus! We ask that all clients and guests bring their own masks to their appointment(s), which reduces the waste of giving out disposable masks that will just be thrown out after the session. We do not provide any masks.

  • We only use vegan ink (we use Dynamic Ink, Solid Ink, and Eternal Ink) and none of the products we use have any animal ingredients, animal byproducts, or are tested on animals.

  • First, send us your ideas over email - the more info you can give us about the design, the better! We will ensure that you are matched with the appropriate artist and that we can properly execute your tattoo idea. We will then send you a Request Form that will give us all the information we need to book you in.

After we have agreed to an appointment date, we will require a non-refundable deposit within 24 hours to secure that spot; the deposit will come off the final price of the tattoo.

We require 2 business days’ notice (our business days are Wednesday to Saturday 12-7) to move your appointment. You may move your appointment twice before we require a new deposit. You forfeit your deposit if you cancel with less than 2 of our business days, no-show, or are late to your appointment.

  • We only tattoo people who are 18 years old or older. No exceptions.

We are not insured to tattoo anyone under the age of 18, parental consent or not.

  • Tattoo pain varies from person to person - a spot on the body that’s terrible for one client might be a walk in the park for another! Everyone experiences pain differently, due to where your nerves sit under your skin. Expect the tattoo to be uncomfortable, but for most people it’s tolerable. A lot of clients describe the feeling as a bad sunburn or prolonged cat scratch.

While every person is different, the body parts that are the most commonly painful are the hands, wrists, feet, ribs/sternum, genitals, and neck.

  • We do not do piercings at this time; however, we highly recommend checking out Instinct Adornment at 319 Victoria Street for all your piercing and jewellery needs!

  • Currently, Nox’s rate is $150 per hour. (Prices are subject to change)

  • Make sure you do not drink alcohol 14 hours minimum before your appointment, and no heavy drinking for 24 hours before.

Get a good night’s sleep and make sure to eat a good meal beforehand - we need you to eat at least 3 hours before your appointment. If you have a long appointment, we recommend you bring snacks and water to have during any breaks. Granola bars, chocolate, and fruit are all great snack options!

You cannot be under the influence of any mind-altering drugs (medicinal or recreational) before or during your appointment. In addition, please do not take any pain-relieving medicine (such as aspirin or ibuprofen) before your appointment, as it can thin your blood and make it harder for us to tattoo you - you’d also be a lot more likely to need touch-ups. If you are on any blood-thinning medication, please let us know prior to your appointment time so we can make the correct accommodations for you in advance.

If you are prone to being cold, feel free to bring a blanket or some fuzzy socks! Our front door opens a lot and can let in drafts, which can leave our studio a bit on the cooler side.

  • Everyone’s tattoo healing journey is different. At our shop we do our best to set you up with a good healing process: making sure the tattoo looks good before it leaves the shop, bandaging you well and providing in-depth aftercare instructions.

However, little hiccups in the healing process can sometimes happen despite one’s best efforts. Tattoos are a foreign object and our body often tries to push unfamiliar things out; it’s also easy to accidentally rub or scrap your tattoo during the healing phase, which can remove ink.

Whatever the case, touch-ups are normal and if there’s anything on your tattoo that needs a little extra love, we’ll happily book you in for a touch-up appointment! For these we just charge $20 plus tax ($21 altogether) to cover the cost of our materials. Alternatively, touch-ups are free with a different tattoo as that covers the material costs of the appointment!

  • We don’t tattoo the face, neck or hands (this includes fingers), even if you are heavily tattooed.

We will not tattoo offensive content that encourages topics such as, but not are limited to: homophobia/transphobia, xenophobia, racism, bigotry, and/or ableism. We, as a shop, are anti-racist and allies to/are members of the LGBTQIA+ community.
