About Our Shop

Overview

We strive to create a welcoming space that respects and supports the physical and emotional safety of our clientele.

To reduce our environmental footprint, we use eco-conscious materials that align with the regulations set forth by Public Health.

We are proudly LGBTQ+ friendly, and queer woman owned.

As we continue to grow, we are actively working to create a more inclusive and accessible space that can support the diverse needs of our clients.

What makes our shop eco-conscious?

Most of our tattoo set-up is either compostable or biodegradable. This includes our barriers, ink caps, bags, and razors.

We also take extra care in recycling materials used in our shop, like paper, ink bottles and more!

Mystic Moon Tattoos has an eco-conscious set up that is mostly biodegradable and compostable.

There are two different types of eco-conscious materials we use: biodegradable and compostable.

While they might sound like the same thing, they are actually different. Biodegradable materials are able to break down into smaller parts, however they take a specific set of conditions to degrade (such as intense heat at a industrial composting facility) and they can still contain plastic. Compostable materials, however, are made from all-natural materials like cornstarch and break down into CO2, water, inorganic compounds, and biomass (the same thing leaves break down into); they also break down a lot quicker than biodegradable materials! Basically, all compostable materials are biodegradable, but not all biodegradable materials are compostable. We’re always trying to think as green as possible and go with tattoo options that least impact the ecosystem.

Clipcord sleeves, machine bags, and bottle bags:

These items are used to cover various things on our station; they are 100 % biodegradable PLA + (PBAT and cornstarch) material.

Barriers and garbage bags:

100% compostable garbage bags are an environmentally-friendly alternative to traditional plastics. The packaging is made of recyclable paper and all the printing is done using soy-based, non-toxic ink. There is no scent, which truly ensures the compostability. Greeko bags (the brand we use for our garbage bags and barriers) are certified for municipal compost programs – ASTM D6400.

Ink caps:

Our ink caps are 100% plant-based; they are self-standing, environmentally sustainable and contain zero harmful fossil fuels (such as crude oil), unlike traditional plastic ink caps which are the most common in the tattoo industry.

Razors:

We use eco-responsible, single-use razors that are made from starch-based bio-plastics. If industrially composted, they decompose 40.6% in 45 days and 71.7% after 139 days.

Gloves:

We use 6110PFs, which are completely eco-friendly and break down by 82% in just 386 days when tested in a laboratory.

Tattoo Safety

All of our artists have their up-to-date blood borne pathogens certificates.

Our stations have fresh barriers, needles and inks for every appointment, which are safely disposed of after the tattoo session is completed. Everything is single-use per client; needles are opened and ink is poured in front of the client every time. We never use expired products.

During cleaning, all barriers, needles, razors and other accessories are handled with care and disposed of properly. Between each tattoo, we sterilize with hospital grade disinfectant (Cavicide) and clean every part of our area. The coat of Cavicide kills any bacteria or viruses it comes into contact with, including:

  • Mycobacterium tuberculosis var: Boris (BCG) (TB)

  • Staphylococcus aureus

  • Pseudomonas aeruginosa

  • Salmonella enterica

  • Klebsiella pneumoniae

  • Bordetella pertussis

  • Trichophyton mentagrophytes

  • Candida albicans

  • Multi-Drug Resistant (MDR) Acinetobacter baumannii

  • Extended Spectrum ß-lactamase Escherichia coli (ESBL)

  • Methicillin Restistant Staphylococcus aureus (MRSA)

  • Vancomycin Resistant Enterococcus faecalis (VRE)

  • Staphylococcus aureus with reduced susceptibility to vancomycin
