About Our Space
The Shop
We are committed to creating a welcoming space that prioritizes the physical and emotional safety of our clients.
The eco-conscious materials that we use meet the regulations set forth by Public Health and reduce our environmental impact.
Our shop is proudly LGBTQ+ friendly and owned by a queer, neurodivergent individual.
As we grow, we are always working to make our space more inclusive and accessible to support the diverse needs of our clients.
Eco-Conscious Tattoos
Most of our tattoo set-up is either compostable or biodegradable. This includes our barriers, ink caps, bags, and razors.
We also take extra care in recycling materials used in our shop, like paper, ink bottles and more!
There are two different types of eco-conscious materials we use: biodegradable and compostable.
While they might sound like the same thing, they are actually different. Biodegradable materials are able to break down into smaller parts, however they take a specific set of conditions to degrade (such as intense heat at an industrial composting facility) and they can still contain plastic. Compostable materials, however, are made from all-natural materials like cornstarch and break down into CO2, water, inorganic compounds, and biomass (the same thing leaves break down into); they also break down a lot quicker than biodegradable materials! Basically, all compostable materials are biodegradable, but not all biodegradable materials are compostable. We’re always trying to think as green as possible and go with tattoo options that least impact the ecosystem.
Here is a rundown of our Eco Supplies:
-
Our garbage bags are made with PLA, an eco-conscious substitute to plastics, and PBAT, a biodegradable polymer. They are designed to be soft on the skin and hygenic.
Tests have shown that the bags we use have a 6-12 months non industrial compost period.
Manufacturer Provided Compostable Garbage Bag Certifications
TUV HOME OK compost -
Like our garbage bags, our barriers are primarily made from PLA + PBAT materials.
The exception is our compostable station covers, which instead of PLA use Starch, Glycerol, and small amounts of Ti02 and LDPE.

Accessibility
Here at Mystic Moon Tattoos, located in Kamloops BC, we do our best to create a safe space for everyone!
Here are some accessibility notes:
-
There are no stairs into our studio, allowing access for wheelchair users. There is a single step in the hall to access the bathroom in our shared building.
-
The building door is heavy, but we’re happy to help! While we don’t have an automatic door opener, we’ll make sure you can enter comfortably.
-
We welcome all skin types, to learn more about tattooing with medical skin concerns click here.
-
We have comfortable seating available in the front of the shop.
-
We keep the music at a moderate volume to avoid sensory overload and are always happy to adjust it. (We also love music recommendations!)
If you'd prefer a “silent appointment” (no chatting or with headphones), just let us know, we’re happy to make it work.
-
Due to the nature of the work, there are a lot of bright lights in the space. We do have sunglasses available if you need them.
-
We have fidgets, books, and games available at the front of the shop for anyone waiting or hanging out with friends. We are also working on a few fidget items that are safe to use during your appointment for the future!
-
We are mask mandatory for the safety and comfort of our clients and team. See here for more information.
-
For health and safety reasons, we prefer not to have animals in the shop. Certified service animals are permitted in the shop. However, to keep the space clean, service animals must remain in the front, fully supervised and cannot be in the sanitized tattooing areas.
-
We do not have dedicated parking. The parkade at 335 Lansdowne St is three buildings over from our shop. There is street parking out front, but we cannot guarantee available spots.
-
We use is a travel bed which holds between 500-600 lbs max. Please note that this weight capacity may vary with sitting or movement. If you are unsure of the bed, we can discuss other accommodations before we book your appointment. We are working on expanding our options in this area.

Is there something we missed? Get in touch with us if you have feedback on how we can improve accessibility, whether for your personal needs or general ways to improve the space!
Do you have any questions, concerns, or suggestions regarding shop accessibility? Please get in touch with us, we’re always willing to discuss it!
We have also done our best to make our website as accessible as possible, but unfortunately limitations with Squarespace have made this difficult. In particular, we have not yet found a way to manually edit aria-labels with Squarespace. We’ve tried to fill in the blanks with alt-text but it is not a perfect solution. Another issue is that focus elements are sometimes a bit out of order - it’s unclear to us how Squarespace determines this and we’ve been unable to find a consistent way to fix it. We apologize for any inconvenience caused, and if you have any suggestions to improve our web accessibility, please let us know!
Shop Safety
Health and safety for both clients and our team is a priority at our shop. We ensure safety standards through established protocols:
Certification: Our artist maintains an up-to-date Bloodborne Pathogens certificate.
Handwashing: We adhere to standard handwashing protocols to maintain hygiene and safety. Aside from regular handwashing, this includes thoroughly washing our hands before and after wearing single-use nitrile gloves.
Preparation: For each appointment, we prepare the station with fresh barriers, needles, and inks. We never use expired products. We wear single-use nitrile gloves during setup.
During Appointments:
Single-use nitrile gloves are worn during stencilling, tattooing, and bandaging.
Needles are opened and ink is poured in front of the client every time.
All used materials are properly and safely disposed of after each use.
After Appointments:
Clients are bandaged with UltraDerm and our full aftercare routine is shared in detail.
Barriers, needles, razors, and other tools are handled with care and disposed of properly to maintain a safe environment.
The station is thoroughly cleaned and sanitized using CaviCide, a hospital-grade disinfectant proven to eliminate bacteria and viruses.
