FAQ

  • We apply a clear bandage to you called “Ultraderm” - it’s a breathable, waterproof bandage that acts as a second skin. It protects your tattoo during the first few days of healing and you will need to leave it on for a minimum of 3 days, up to a week (7 days).

If you develop redness or rashes around the bandage, you might be having a slight allergic reaction or are experiencing irritation. If this happens, immediately remove the Ultraderm and begin your aftercare.

When it’s time to remove the Ultraderm, hop in the shower and allow the water to loosen the bandage’s adhesive. Peel down slowly and carefully, in the same direction as your hair growth in that area - if there’s any adhesive residue, it’ll come off shortly. (Don’t pick at it!) Do not aggressively pull off the bandage or try to rip it off quickly like a bandaid, as that can remove excess tattoo ink from your skin; be gentle and take your time!

After you’ve removed the bandage, very gently wash your tattoo with a clean hand and unscented liquid soap. Don’t use any soap/product on a healing tattoo that has a scent - it’s like putting perfume in an open wound! The tattoo will be tender and sore, so be gentle when washing it; do NOT use a loofa, exfoliating soap, or bar of soap as these can cause tattoo ink fallout due to the scrubbing.

Pat the tattoo dry with fresh paper towel (it’s much more sanitary than a bath towel that’s been washed hundreds of times) and then apply a pea-sized amount of thin, unscented moisturizer; very gently rub it in until it’s fully absorbed into the skin. Make sure not to apply too much moisturizer or use too thick of a lotion, as this can suffocate the tattoo and affect healing. Do NOT use polysporin or Vaseline on your tattoo!

We recommend repeating these cleaning and moisturizing steps twice a day for the duration of your healing.

During the 4-6 weeks that your tattoo is healing:

-No soaking your tattoo; this means no baths, no swimming, and no hot tubs (water running over it in the shower is totally fine).

-No picking or scratching; this can result in tattoo ink fallout. Light slaps or compressions can help with the itchiness

-No direct sunlight or tanning (either outside, in a tanning bed, or fake tanner); you cannot put sunscreen on a healing tattoo, so make sure to cover it when you’re outside by wearing loose, soft clothing overtop of the area that isn’t abrasive or rubbing against the skin.

-No shaving or waxing the tattooed area until it’s fully healed; not only do you not want to accidentally remove the peeling skin from the tattoo, but you also don’t want to risk cutting or damaging the skin. (Due to the nature of tattoos, you will not be able to get laser hair removal on an area where you have gotten a tattoo.)

It will take about 4-6 weeks for your tattoo to fully heal. Once there is no more peeling or glossiness, the tattoo will be completely matte on your skin and only then will it be okay to stop aftercare; however, we recommend being careful with your tattoo and moisturizing it daily for the next year.

If you find that your tattoo needs a little bit of extra love after it’s fully healed, we just charge $21 to cover the cost of materials to touch it up. (Touch-ups to our work are free alongside a new tattoo as well!)

Please let us know how it heals - we love getting healed picture of our work!

  • We only tattoo people who are 18 years old or older; no exceptions. We are not insured to tattoo anyone under the age of 18, parental consent or not.

  • We require 2 of our business days (Tuesday-Saturday 12-7) to reschedule or cancel your appointment. You may reschedule your appointment up to two times until we need a new deposit for that appointment. If you have rescheduled your appointment twice and you’re looking to reschedule again we will ask for a new deposit.

  • Deposits will be based on how long you’re booked in, currently starting at $80 up to $500 for a full day. Deposits will continue to be non refundable and come off the final price of the tattoo.

If you cancel under 2 of our business days, no show or are late to your appointment your entire deposit will be forfeited. Please call to cancel or rebook.

  • First, send us your ideas over email - the more info you can give us about the design, the better! We will ensure that you are matched with the appropriate artist and that we can properly execute your tattoo idea. We will then send you a consultation form that will give us all the information we need to book you in.

Some artists will want an in-person consultation before booking the tattoo. If so, we will find a time and day that works for both you and the artist. After we have agreed to an appointment date, we will require a non-refundable deposit within 24 hours to secure that spot; the deposit will come off the final price of the tattoo.

We require 2 business days’ notice (our business days are Tuesday to Saturday 12-7) to move your appointment. You may move your appointment twice before we require a new deposit. You forfeit your deposit if you cancel with less 2 of our business days, no-show, or are late to your appointment.

  • Tattoo pain varies from person to person - a spot on the body that’s terrible for one client might be a walk in the park for another! Everyone experiences pain differently, due to where your nerves sit under your skin. Expect the tattoo to be uncomfortable, but for most people it’s tolerable. A lot of clients describe the feeling as a bad sunburn or prolonged cat scratch.

While every person is different, the body parts that are the most commonly painful are the hands, wrists, feet, ribs/sternum, genitals, and neck.

  • We do not do piercings at this time; however, we highly recommend checking out Instinct Adornment at 319 Victoria Street for all your piercing and jewelry needs!

  • At the moment Maria is $150/hour and Sydney is $140/hour, both with a $95 minimum. Avery’s rate is $100 per hour. (These prices are subject to change)

  • Please look through our artists’ portfolios to get an idea of their work and to make sure that their skill/style connects with the tattoo you’re looking to get done. You’ll want to choose an artist who you think can best execute your vision.

Our artists all specialize in different areas of tattooing, and as such only take on designs that are within their skill set. Take some time to make sure that their tattoo style matches with your idea!

  • We have people in the shop that are immune-compromised, and our artists work very close to our clientele. This poses risks to both our staff and clients, and we reduce many of those risks by staying mask mandatory - you’re also less likely to get sick during flu season, which is a bonus! We ask that all clients and guests bring their own masks to their appointment(s), which reduces the waste of giving out disposable masks that will just be thrown out after the session. We do not provide any masks.

  • Make sure you do not drink alcohol 14 hours minimum before your appointment, and no heavy drinking for 24 hours before.

Get a good night’s sleep and make sure to eat a good meal beforehand - we need you to eat at least 3 hours before your appointment. If you have a long appointment, we recommend you bring snacks and water to have during any breaks. Granola bars, chocolate, and fruit are all great snack options!

You cannot be under the influence of any mind-altering drugs (medicinal or recreational) before or during your appointment. In addition, please do not take any pain-relieving medicine (such as aspirin or ibuprofen) before your appointment, as it can thin your blood and make it harder for us to tattoo you - you’d also be a lot more likely to need touch-ups. If you are on any blood-thinning medication, please let us know prior to your appointment time so we can make the correct accommodations for you in advance.

If you are prone to being cold, feel free to bring a blanket or some fuzzy socks! Our front door opens a lot and can let in drafts, which can leave our studio a bit on the cooler side.

  • Everyone’s tattoo healing journey is different. At our shop we do our best to set you up with a good healing process: making sure the tattoo looks good before it leaves the shop, bandaging you well and providing in-depth aftercare instructions.

However, little hiccups in the healing process can sometimes happen despite one’s best efforts. Tattoos are a foreign object and our body often tries to push unfamiliar things out; it’s also easy to accidentally rub or scrap your tattoo during the healing phase, which can remove ink.

Whatever the case, touch-ups are normal and if there’s anything on your tattoo that needs a little extra love, we’ll happily book you in for a touch-up appointment! For these we just charge $20 plus tax ($21 altogether) to cover the cost of our materials.

  • Most items we use for tattooing are either compostable or bio-degradable. Gloves, ink caps, barriers and bags all easily break down.

We will not tattoo offensive content that encourages topics such as, but not are limited to: homophobia/transphobia, xenophobia, racism, bigotry, and/or ableism. We, as a shop, are anti-racist and allies to/are members of the LGBTQIA+ community.
